Since 1957 the “Bibliographie der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaft”, also known as the quoting title “Eppelsheimer-Köttelwesch”, has appeared in the publishing house Vittorio Klostermann. As the most important bibliographic source of information in German studies, BdSL is an indispensible reference work. It is compiled by the Universitaetsbibliothek (Public and University Library) Johann Christian Senckenberg in Frankfurt/Main, a German studies center, via autopsy. Since 1990, apart from the print edition there exists also an edition on CD-ROM which in its latest edition (of November 2003) documented the compilation period from 1985 until 2002.

In the spring of 2004 BdSL went online, the CD-ROM version was discontinued. In comparison to the print edition, the CD-ROM already allowed scholars and individuals interested in literature a much more simplified research and a large increase of results. It was already possible to search for a topic in all the documented years. These advantages are even improved by the online edition. It contains in digital form the documenting period from 1985 onwards to the present. The documenting periods 1985 until 1995 are available online unrestrictedly and at no cost. Access to the following years is offered by the publisher via subscription.

The traditional print edition of BdSL is being continued.
