Peaceman, Hannah: Die Dialektik der EmanzipationDas Potential jüdischer Perspektiven für die politische Philosophie der Gegenwart
In political philosophy after the Shoah, Jewish perspectives are conspicuously absent. The omnipresent topos of the Judeo-Christian tradition obscures the historical exclusion of Jews and Judaism from philosophy and society. Based on this diagnosis, the study proposes a renewal of Jewish perspectives. For this purpose, the epistemological and social critique voiced by the „Verein für Cultur und Wissenschaft der Juden“ (Association for Jewish Culture and Science) (1819-1824) is reconstructed. The aim of this critique was to simultaneously overcome the power relations within the Jews and the dominance of the Christian majority in society as a whole. As a model of a theory- and society-changing practice, this critique is intended to provide inspiration for political-philosophical debates of the present.
