Jünger Debatte Band 6
Über den Schmerz
Ernst Jünger's 1934 essay Über den Schmerz is one of Jünger's most important texts. It is thematically related to his seminal essay Der Arbeiter. Herrschaft und Gestalt. A new relationship to pain is interpreted as a criterion of modernity, which, according to Jünger, is nihilistic at its core. Modern man must thus be ready to objectify his body in all possible ways to such an extent that pain becomes a measure of this intrinsically senseless process. At the same time, it must be seen that Jünger later abandoned this conception of pain in favor of a return to the story of the passion of Christ. Jünger Debatte 6 brings together ten essays on this topic. In addition, among other contributions, yet another part of the manuscript of Der Arbeiter is published for the first time as a facsimile and in diplomatic transcription.
